The sprawling landscape of the San Fernando Valley makes it perfect as one of the popular locations for movie making. Blacktop boulevards stretching across the entire length of the valley connect this pristine hillside of rundown urban apartments and streets and other social hangout spots.
Here are some popular films that made movie location San Fernando Valley quite famous in filmmakers’ list.
1: The Foxfire Room, 12516 Magnolia Boulevard, situated at Whitsett Avenue in Valley Village, is a famous bar, where quiz kid Donnie (William H Macy) announces his love for Brad the Barman in – yes – Magnolia.
2: In Reseda, the building that was transformed for Boogie Nights into ‘Hot Traxx’ disco at 18419 Sherman Way at Canby Avenue, is now turned into a church. Besides that, there is another purpose-built church, St Catherine of Siena, 18115 Sherman Way, where a down-on-his-luck Dirk Diggler (Mark Wahlberg) gets beaten up.
3: Another popular location in the valley is the Pershing Square and the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, which are located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles
4: Toward the west of the Valley, 19223 Saticoy Street, you can find the well-known South Seas apartment block of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) in the original “The Karate Kid”.
5: Towards the west, you will find the Canoga Park branch of Carl’s Jr, 20105 Saticoy Street, at Winnetka Avenue. This movie location in San Fernando Valley was transformed into ‘Mr. Smiley’, where Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) gets a job serving up burgers in the popular movie American Beauty. We guess you’ve remembered the scene from the movie by now.
This Valley, however, is a bit short on historic sites and breathtaking architecture, but if we talk about Universal, Warner Bros, and Disney; it’s indeed a wonderland. It is some sort of a giant back lot, haphazardly dotted with numerous movie locations, where you can enjoy studio tours with your family and friends.
